• Transaction and Ledger Data: We collect the details of the bills you create or are tagged in, including amounts, currencies, group names, item descriptions, and who paid whom.
• Images and AI Inputs: When you use our Magic AI Scanning feature, we collect the photos of the receipts you upload and the natural language text you input to process the split.
• Device and Usage Data: We collect standard diagnostic data, such as IP addresses, device types, browser types, and app interaction metrics to maintain and improve the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data to:

• Provide, maintain, and secure the core functionalities of the Penny app.
• Calculate group balances, optimal repayment paths, and currency conversions.
• Process receipts and natural language commands using our AI models. (Note: Receipt images are processed to extract line items and totals to fulfill your request).
• Send you important account updates, group invitations, and technical notices.

3. How We Share Your Information

• With Other Users: When you join a group, your alias, email (for invitation purposes only), and transaction history within that specific group are visible to other members of that group.
• With Service Providers: We use trusted third-party vendors for cloud hosting, database management, and AI processing APIs. These providers are bound by strict confidentiality agreements and only process your data on our behalf.
• For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety and rights of Penny, our users, or the public.
• No Sale of Data: We do not and will not sell your personal information or financial data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Because Penny operates as a shared financial ledger, if you choose to delete your account or leave a group, your personal identifier (email/password) will be deleted, but the underlying transaction data (amounts, items, and a "former member" placeholder) will remain in the group to ensure the ledger remains balanced for other users.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard encryption and security protocols to protect your data in transit and at rest. However, no digital transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or request the deletion of your personal data. You can manage your aliases and group memberships directly within the app, or contact us to exercise your data rights.
